If you’re comparing porcelain tile suppliers for Europe right now, you’re probably sitting on the same supplier list you had five years ago. China for volume, Turkey for speed.
That setup made sense when duties were lower and freight was predictable. It’s gotten harder to justify lately, mainly because of duties.
The EU currently has anti-dumping duties on tiles from all three countries, and the rates are not close to each other. China sits at 13.9% to 69.7% depending on the producer, though most Chinese exporters land at either 30.6% if they cooperated with the investigation or the full 69.7% if they didn’t. That gap is the real reason a lot of EU importers are looking at India alongside China and Turkey this year.
This is usually the first question, and it’s a fair one. Cheap tiles that crack in transit or vary in shade between boxes cost more than they save.
China still has the biggest range of factories on earth. The top-tier ones produce excellent porcelain. The gap is between the top-tier and everything below it. You can get a great sample and a mediocre container three months later if you’re not auditing closely.
Turkey sits in a comfortable middle. Good design sense, solid water absorption numbers, reliable sizing. Capacity is the catch. Turkish factories aren’t built for the scale China runs, so big orders can get tight on lead time.
India has changed a lot in the last few years. Morbi factories have brought in Italian machinery and digital printing lines. The bigger names there are now producing tiles with low water absorption, tight sizing tolerances and proper batch consistency. That used to be a China-or-Turkey-only thing.
If you’re vetting a porcelain tile manufacturer in Morbi, three things are worth asking for upfront:
Quality at the top end of Morbi is genuinely on par with Turkey now, measured against the same EN ISO 10545 water-absorption limits. Lower-tier Morbi factories are still inconsistent, the same way lower-tier Chinese factories are. The factory matters more than the country at this point.
FOB price is the easy number to compare. It’s also the least useful one once duties and freight are added.
India typically runs 15-25% cheaper than Turkey and 10-20% cheaper than China on FOB price for similar quality, based on the shipments we quote week to week. Layer the EU anti-dumping duties on top, and the gap moves further in India’s favour, since its 6.7-8.7% band sits well below both Turkey’s top rate and China’s 30.6% or 69.7%.
China can still win on raw FOB price for huge volume orders. Add the duty, the audit time, and the inconsistent quality risk, and that saving shrinks fast. Turkey’s closeness to Europe used to offset its higher base cost, but the current duty range has eaten into that for a lot of buyers.

A great product with missing documentation can sit in customs for weeks.
India’s bigger exporters have built their operation around the EU market, so CE marking, EN 14411 compliance, ISO 9001 and proper testing reports are usually standard rather than something you chase down. You can check our certifications and export credentials directly.
China is mixed here. Some factories have airtight documentation, others need back and forth before you get what you need. Turkey is generally solid on compliance too. CE marking and EU familiarity aren’t usually the issue with Turkish suppliers. Cost is.
Specs on paper only tell half the story. The other half is whether your supplier answers emails, hits deadlines, and handles problems without disappearing.
China’s larger exporters tend to have proper systems in place. Smaller manufacturers can be hit or miss, and a lot of that depends on which agent you’re working through. Turkey is usually consistent here, established export processes, decent English, and few surprises.
India has made a real jump over the past couple of years. More exporters now run dedicated export teams, send documentation without being asked twice, and offer flexible payment terms. If you’re exploring private labels from India, this is exactly where it matters, since a private label run needs a supplier who follows through on spec batch after batch, not just the first sample.
This is the part that gets overstated a lot, so here’s the accurate version. The India-EU free trade agreement was concluded on 27 January 2026 after nearly two decades of on-and-off talks, as confirmed in the European Commission’s official statement. It’s now going through ratification by the EU Council, the European Parliament and India’s own approval process, so it isn’t in force yet.
Once it takes effect, the standard EU customs duty on porcelain tiles, currently around 5%, is set to be reduced or eliminated for Indian exporters, either right away or phased in over up to five years depending on the tariff line. That’s the EU lowering what it charges India, not the other way around, and it’s a real saving on top of everything else in this comparison. Entry into force is expected in early 2027, pending legal review and ratification, not immediately.
An FTA covers ordinary customs tariffs. It doesn’t override anti-dumping duties, a separate measure that an FTA doesn’t touch. India’s 6.7–8.7% EU anti-dumping duty stays in place regardless, since it’s a separate trade instrument that the FTA doesn’t reach.
So the honest read is: the FTA adds a second, genuine cost advantage for India on top of its quality and pricing position, just not on an immediate timeline, and not as a replacement for the anti-dumping duty that’s already in place. Read more in our India-EU FTA benefits piece.
